So what does The Queen Is Dead mean to me? I admit I'm a relative late comer to the music of The Smiths - a conversion that's been totally down to seeing Johnny perform Smiths tracks at his gigs. When I listen to my vinyl version of The Queen is Dead my highpoint is without doubt "There is a light that never goes out". It's the Smiths first track I saw Johnny perform live, it's my favourite track on album (and indeed my favourite Smiths track). And this track, is like the rest of the songs on the album – it's unique, it's class, it stands the test of time (and if I ever get asked to pick my desert island discs it'll definitely feature). |
